So I would say, that while Genesis 2 is given as a pattern of marriage, and it clearly has that function, it's partly retrospective, in that in Genesis 2 there is no family for the man to leave, and the post-Fall terminus of death isn't in view, so there are some discontinuities in the idea of marriage that it presents.
