Dear reader, critic, companion, friend, acquaintance, passer-by:
In the last year or so I've written over 100K words on this newsletter/blog/substack. If you've subscribed more recently, why not take a moment to browse the archives. I originally started writing here as a space and a place to think more theologically in words, and to process the inordinate amount of books I was reading. It's grown somewhat, in the sense that it's now a place where I'm trying to do constructive theological thinking, in a way that's accessible and digestible by a wide range of people.
Today's post is to let you know that after some deliberation I will be offering a paid subscription option. Let me tell you what that means, what's changing, and what you can do.
What's changing for most of you:
Nothing.
Okay, but what’s really changing?
So, there are various options on substack to offer posts or options to subscribers only. I have no plan, intention, or desire to limit access to paid subscribers only. It's not a model I really like; it doesn't sit well with me as a model. I don't think it's necessarily wrong, but that's not how I want to run this place. So all my content, all the archives, everything here will remain free, accessible, open, until heaven and earth, or at least substack and the internet, pass away.
If you interact with this substack on the website or through the app, then the interface will probably suggest you become a paid subscriber in annoying ways. I have tried to turn them off. This is, to be fair, part of substack the business's operating model - they rely on writers making money for them to make money, and they do need to make money.
Why would you give me money if you're not getting anything extra?
Here's where we get to the crunch, right? If you appreciate what I'm doing in this space, are enjoying these twice weekly posts, and you're in a stable financial position and want to support what I'm doing and help defray some of the costs, and support some of my broader writing endeavours, then I'm inviting you to support this financially. Your money will go to purchasing books and subsidising some of the time I spend writing.
There are three subscription options if you do want to pay real cash money:
Monthly Subscription, USD $5 - that's like 62c an article.
Yearly Subscription, USD $50 - that's like 48c an article.
Founding Member - if you want to pay more than USD$50 a year, you can select this option. It will suggest $100, but you can put any number in here you like (above $50)
I don't want your money if you feel guilty or like you need to pay for something here. I only want you to subscribe if you can genuinely afford it from a surplus of money and out of generosity of heart.
Okay, that's all you'll hear from me on this topic. Subscriptions now available. Thanks for being on this journey with me.
